Walk the talk and your team will follow you– Rick Conlow
We’ve used the team analogy during this challenge to remind you that your family is a unit and they all matter when it comes to creating a peaceful home. Working together doing chores, finding the right décor for self-expression, and making memories together all adds to the peace in your home. As the leader of your team, your enthusiasm and example are going to get your family motivated.
Your example will motivate your family to be more enthusiastic and engaged with creating a peaceful home. If this is a new concept, it might feel strange and your family may not know how to react. Here’s how to lead them and get them motivated to make positive changes.
- Educate
- Encourage
- Example
- Endure
Educate your family- Whenever you want to make changes, it’s best to share the why behind it. If you want to make peace a priority in your home, share that with your family. Ask them for feedback and share ideas you have to create a more peaceful home. Some of the ideas may not sound reasonable…especially chores, to everyone at the moment, but you can be assured that any positive decisions you are making for your family are worthwhile.
Encourage your family- As you begin to make changes, walk the talk and encourage your family along the way. If you have initiated changes for home maintenance or are encouraging them to sort through belongings to keep, donate, or throw away, there may be resistance. Remain positive and model the behavior you want to see in them. Over time they will see the benefits to the changes you are making.
Be an example to your family- People are watchers. They pay less attention to what people say and more attention to what they do. Be an example for your family and do the next right thing. They will notice the changes you are making and over time they will appreciate them.
Be willing to endure during the transition- Enduring means to stick with things for the long haul. It may take time and consistency for your family to see the changes you are making. Don’t lose hope or give up. Stick to your plan and continue to model the behavior you want. Be firm and don’t give in when you’d rather take an easier way. Stay consistent with your goals and you’ll experience the benefits of a peaceful home.
Your family looks to you as the leader to set the tone for your home. Making changes to find more peace might start with some resistance. Lead by example and your family will appreciate the effort and learn to adopt the healthy lifestyle you are creating.
