Finding a Tribe- Being Intentional with Your Social Life

When life is busy, it’s easy to fall into a social rut. Hanging out with the same people doing the same things. That’s not a bad situation if you are fully content with the people you are hanging out with and doing the things you want to do. If not, you may need a new tribe.

There’s something about being around people who make you feel your best. People who fit like a glove and get you. People who enjoy similar things as you and the time flies while you’re having fun. There’s just simply something wonderful about being a part of a social tribe.

Finding a tribe might feel like a daunting task if you don’t have one already. A lot of people feel like a fish out of water or as though they don’t have a group that they belong to. This can keep them from socializing in meaningful ways. It’s important to make finding a tribe part of creating a happy social life and be intentional about it.

There are a lot of ways to find and connect to a tribe. Consider some of these options:

Search social media – No matter what the platform is, social media is meant for social engagement. Generally, every social media platform offers the ability to join groups or pages that funnel like-minded people together. Even hashtags make it possible to zero in on activities or topics that you love. It won’t take long to find a tribe of people who are eager to connect over similar things.

Meet up groups – From poetry slam sessions to paint and sip events, there are a lot of community events happening in your area. Meetup.com is a wonderful way to find like-minded people looking to gather and have fun. You can also look at opportunities like Facebook to see what events are happening near you and join in on the fun.

Ask and communicate – Asking around and communicating with others helps you find people to be social with. If you join a group or follow a social media page, get in there and engage to make friends. The more active you are sharing that you’re looking for connection, the easier it will be to get some.

Create a tribe – If you aren’t seeing the tribe you want, build it. Create a way to connect and start to build the tribe yourself. Someone’s got to do it, so why not you? It can be a fun and exciting time pulling people together and offering a way to connect.

Finding a tribe can seem hard, but it isn’t. You can find people who are interested in the same things you are, or you can create a tribe on your own. Don’t wait around hoping and wishing you had people to connect with, be intentional and find the tribe you’ve always wanted.
